Strategic Ad Development

Honeywell Fire / System Sensor and Fire•Lite Brands  |  Print and Digital Advertising
Employee Engagement, 2004 to 2020

Effective advertising in the fire and life safety industry requires technical accuracy and creative execution that speaks to a channel audience, installers, specifiers, and distributors who know the difference between a credible claim and a vague one. These ads were developed during my tenure at Honeywell to drive product awareness and lead generation across print and digital channels for the System Sensor brand.

Each campaign was built around a specific customer pain point or product differentiator. The creative approach varied by audience and objective: some ads used humor and unexpected imagery to break through in a technically dense environment, others leaned on precision photography and direct technical messaging to reach specifiers evaluating product for a project.

Specialty Detection and Critical Environments

Focused on high-stakes verticals where standard smoke detection is insufficient. These ads translate complex hardware specifications into value-driven messaging for data centers, commercial kitchens, and HVAC applications.

FAAST: Intelligent Aspiration Detection

Used unexpected imagery to simplify a technically complex product and position aspirating smoke detection as the intelligent choice for data centers, clean rooms, and mission-critical environments. Campaign drove qualified leads into a digital nurture sequence.

Heat Detection: Commercial Kitchen Solutions

A targeted campaign educating installers on the necessity of heat detection in high-steam environments. Positioned the product line as the reliable alternative to smoke detection in commercial kitchens where nuisance alarms are a persistent problem.

InnovairFlex: Flexible Duct Smoke Detection

Demonstrated the adjustable footprint of the InnovairFlex line to address a specific field installation challenge. Focused on solving mounting constraints to save installers time while differentiating the product from rigid competitor designs.

Scalable Wireless and Integrated Systems

Centered on the industry shift toward system convergence and flexible infrastructure. These campaigns targeted retrofits and modernizations by emphasizing integration capability and reduced installation complexity.

SWIFT: Wireless Life Safety Integration

Positioned wireless mesh technology as a practical solution for retrofits and difficult installations where running wire was costly or impossible. Developed for the Fire•Lite brand as part of the broader SWIFT wireless campaign. Creative was designed to overcome technical skepticism in a dealer channel accustomed to traditional wired systems.

Detection and Notification: Full-Line Integration

Illustrated a comprehensive life safety portfolio to position the brand as a single-source provider for integrated smoke, CO, and audible-visible notification solutions across a complete installation.

i4 Series: Integrated CO and Smoke Detection

Launched the industry's first system-connected combination CO and smoke detector to meet long-standing installer demand. Focused messaging on labor cost reduction and installation efficiency by combining two essential life safety functions into a single device.

Field Optimization and Environmental Reliability

Focused on reducing field labor costs and ensuring long-term system stability in challenging physical environments. These ads highlight durability and installer-centric design for contractors and technicians working in demanding conditions.

Outdoor AV: Weatherproof System Reliability

Problem-centric creative highlighting the necessity of NEMA-rated notification devices in harsh outdoor environments. Positioned System Sensor as the technical authority for durable outdoor life safety solutions and drove installers to supporting installation resources.

WFDN: Waterflow Detector Innovation

Launched a redesigned waterflow detector line for fire sprinkler professionals. Messaging focused on improved usability and tactile design features to differentiate the first major hardware upgrade to the product in 30 years.

My Role

I developed the creative concepts, designed the ads, and wrote the headlines for each campaign as a marketing communications specialist at Honeywell. These ads were produced as part of integrated campaigns that included email nurture, trade show materials, and sales enablement content. Each ad was designed to function both as a standalone print piece and as a digital asset deployable across web and email channels.
